COTABATO CITY — The Regional Statistics Committee (RSCom), a special committee of the Bangsamoro Economic and Development Council (BEDC), successfully conducted its third regular meeting held Friday, Sept. 23 at the BPDA Conference Hall 2, Bangsamoro Government Center in this city and via Zoom video teleconference.
Marifah Agar, Chief of Research and Development Division (RDD), who represented BPDA Director General Engr. Mohajirin T. Ali, committee chairperson, presided the said meeting together with Engr. Akan G. Tula, OIC Regional Director of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA-BARMM) co-chairperson of the said committee.
The meeting highlights the committee’s adoption on the proposed “Resolution Enjoining the Members of the Regional Statistics Committee (RSCom) to Support the Roll-out of the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) in the Region”.
Accordingly, CBMS is an organized technology-based system, collecting, processing and validating disaggregated data, for use in planning, program implementation and impact monitoring at local level.
“It is an important statistical activity that will contribute to the overall strengthening of the Philippine Statistical System”, Engr. Tula stressed while presenting the said resolution.
Furthermore, Engr. Kadil A. Sulaik, Director I for Research Development and Special Projects Bureau of the BPDA, discussed the proposed creation of the ‘Research and Knowledge Management Sub-committee’ and the BPDA’s ongoing formulation of the 1st BARMM Policy Research Agenda (BDPRA).
Sittie Asmalia Cornell, Statistical Specialist II of PSA-BARMM, discussed the upcoming celebration of the 33rd National Statistics Month on October, highlighting the conduct of regional elimination for the 2nd RSC Quiz Bee.
Meanwhile, other topics discussed during the meeting were the BARMM macro-economic data presented by Mahmur Sarail of PSA-BARMM, design elements and security features of the ‘First Polymer Piso’ presented by Jherus de Guia of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP-Mindanao Regional Office), and updates on the Research and Development Council presented by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST-BARMM).
